GEES 106 – Essential Skills I: Communication Skills 

Exploring essential skills for work, learning and life; this college orientation module focuses on several key elements that will provide students with the tools they need to succeed. Throughout the module, students will engage in critical thinking, practice effective and professional communication and develop strong presentation skills in a variety of group settings and sizes.

GEES 107 – Essential Skills II: Financial Skills

Being a successful student means recognizing how you learn, what you value, and what you are striving for. It means knowing how to manage your time and money. It also means learning how to take notes and tests, collaborating with others, and using technology to make your work more effective and efficient. In this module, students will learn how to research, how to write, and how to present. The module also focuses on financial literacy and learning how to manage finances through an Enriched Academy program tailored for Oxford College students.

GEES 108 – Essential Skills III: Career Skills 

In this module, students will develop career-planning skills, create effective resumes and cover letters, understand the importance of networking, and practice interview techniques. The summative assessment for the Essential Skills course is in the form of a Mock Interview where students will demonstrate the skills acquired throughout the course in an interview setting with their instructor.

MAPB 100 – Preparing a Business Plan 

In this module, students will explore the benefits of entrepreneurship as a Makeup Artist. An emphasis throughout this module is on conducting research toward creating an individualized business plan. Unleash your creative potential and turn your passion for makeup into a lucrative venture.

HSIC 106m – Infection Prevention and Control 

In this module, students develop a foundation in infection prevention and control best practices according to Ontario Public Health for the Makeup Artistry industry.

GEFA 106 – First Aid and CPR

This subject is designed for individuals to learn about how to deal with common medical emergencies including choking and cardiac arrest for the infant, child and adult Emphasis is placed on recognition of the signs and symptoms of common medical emergencies to ensure appropriate care for the casualty. This subject consists of both theory and practical based learning. Practical hands-on components are supported by a variety of training materials, based on course requirements.

MAFA 100 – Facial Anatomy and Physiology 

This module introduces the student to the structures of the face and the function of the skin. It discusses conditions that are likely to be encountered in the industry preparing you to navigate the challenges encountered in the makeup artist profession.

MAIM 100 – Introduction to Makeup Artistry 

In this module, students will be introduced to the history of makeup and the influence of culture on makeup. The students will learn key principles of professional image, professional conduct, ethics, and time management as they apply to the workplace.

MACL 100 – Colour Theory 

In this module, students explore the psychology of colour, understanding how different hues evoke emotions and convey messages. Students will master the intricacies of the colour wheel, learning to harmonize and contrast tones to create visually stunning and balanced makeup looks. From warm to cool undertones and complementary contrasts to analogous blends, this module equips aspiring makeup artists with the expertise to tailor their artistry to individual preferences and occasions.

MACN 100 – Makeup Consultations 

In this module, students will develop effective communication strategies, and learn how to conduct in-depth consultations that uncover clients’ facial characteristics, makeup and product preferences, skin type, and lifestyle needs.

MAPR 101 – Makeup I 

In this module, students acquire the essential skills necessary for mastering the art of makeup. This module focuses on the foundations, teaching the proper use of tools and the knowledge to differentiate between makeup products. Through hands-on practice and expert guidance, students will refine their technique and gain the confidence to execute professional makeup applications.

MAHR 200 – Introduction to Hairstyling for the Makeup Artist 

In this module, students will learn fundamental hairstyling skills like blow drying, using a flat iron, and various curling methods. Classic, modern, and trendy hairstyles, twists, buns, braids, updos, and accessory placement are covered.

MAPR 201 – Makeup II 

In this module, students further develop their practical makeup skills by learning makeup for special occasions, makeup for aging clients, makeup for teens, and bridal makeup.

MAPR 301 – Makeup III 

In this module, students further develop their practical makeup skills by learning the intricacies of HD makeup, mastering the art of airbrushing, and learning the latest trends shaping the makeup industry. Additionally, the module places a spotlight on fashion and runway makeup, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of the skills required to excel in this field.

MAMD 300 – Media Makeup 

This module is designed to enhance students’ practical makeup skills with a focus on the world of entertainment. Throughout the module, key sectors are explored, including film and TV makeup, male makeup, black and white photography makeup, and stage and theatre makeup. Emphasizing hands-on experience, the module guides students in mastering techniques tailored to high-definition settings, character development, males, and the unique challenges of black-and-white photography.

MAPF 400 – Portfolio Building

In this module, students will create a portfolio that reflects their unique style and expertise. From fundamental techniques to advanced applications, students are guided through the creative process, ensuring the portfolio becomes a visual masterpiece that opens doors to opportunities in the exciting world of beauty.
